Putin gave Russian citizenship to an American boxer and a Canadian hockey player

Russian President Vladimir Putin granted Russian citizenship to American boxer Kevin Johnson and Canadian hockey player playing for SKA St. Petersburg, Brandon Laipsic. The presidential decree on granting Russian citizenship includes 44 people.
In a document published on website legal information indicates that Kalageorgi Andrey Leo also received Russian citizenship. According to Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Crimea Georgiy Muradov, Mr. Kalageorgi is a descendant of Catherine II.
A native of Yugoslavia, Ratko Samac, who came to the country in 1999, also received Russian citizenship. Bosnia and Herzegovina insisted on the extradition of Ratko Samac in connection with charges of war crimes allegedly committed in 1993. In 2016, the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office refused to extradite the man.
Boxer Kevin Johnson has applied for citizenship in September 2023. The athlete’s representative told TASS that the boxer took the middle name Vladimirovich in honor of the Russian President.
