Putin extended the benefits of contract soldiers of the Ministry of Defense to Russian Guard volunteers

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decree, which extends to fighters of volunteer formations of the Russian Guard the same benefits and support measures as to volunteers in the Ministry of Defense. Now they are entitled to compensation for injury or disability, and in the event of the death of a military man – to their relatives.
In accordance with the decree, volunteers as part of the Russian Guard will be able to count on:
- monthly monetary compensation;
- inclusion of periods of stay in volunteer formations in the insurance period and work experience, which gives the right to early receipt of a pension;
- supply of clothing;
- compensation for utility bills for the families of deceased volunteers.
Payment of compensation is provided by the Ministry of Defense, the Russian National Guard or an insurer that has entered into contracts with these departments within 30 days from the date of receipt of the documents necessary to make a decision on payment of compensation.
The law allowing the Russian Guard to have its own volunteer formations, Vladimir Putin signed in December 2023. The document not only gives Russian Guard volunteers the same rights as Ministry of Defense volunteers, but also introduces liability for disseminating deliberately false information about them. For fakes about volunteers (Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) the penalty is up to 15 years in prison, for discrediting them (Article 280.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) – up to 7 years.
