Putin Expresses Condolences on Death of Former Chinese President Jiang Zemin

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed condolences to the President of the People’s Republic of China on the death of the former President of the Republic, Jiang Zemin. Telegram text published on the Kremlin website.
“Please accept our deepest condolences on the passing of former Chairman of the People’s Republic of China and General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Jiang Zemin. <...> The bright memory of such an authoritative politician and a wonderful person will forever remain in my heart. I ask you to convey the words of my most sincere sympathy to the families and friends of the deceased, as well as to all the friendly people of China,” the statement said.
Putin noted Zemin’s role in developing Russian-Chinese relations and bringing them to the level of trusting partnership and strategic cooperation. The head of state stressed that the agreement on good neighborliness, friendship and cooperation, signed in 2001, formed the basis “for the qualitative build-up of the entire range of bilateral ties.”

From 1989 to 2002 He was General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, from 1989 to 2004 – Chairman of the Military Council of the CPC Central Committee, from 1990 to 2005 – Chairman of the Central Military Council of the PRC. In 1993-2003 served as President of the People’s Republic of China.
