Putin expressed hope for expanding military-technical cooperation with Kyrgyzstan

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed hope that military-technical cooperation (MTC) between Russia and Kyrgyzstan will strengthen and expand. He stated this during a speech at a gala event marking the 20th anniversary of the Kant air base.
“I hope that military and military-technical cooperation between Russia and Kyrgyzstan, our allied relations, symbolized by the presence of the Russian military contingent in Kant, will continue to strengthen and expand in the interests of ensuring the security of our two states,” he said.
Putin called the airbase a “military outpost.” It makes a “significant contribution” to strengthening the republic’s defense capability, as well as to ensuring security and stability in Central Asia, the Russian President noted. He drew attention to the fact that the CSTO peacekeeping forces “Indestructible Brotherhood – 2023” are currently holding exercises in Kyrgyzstan, in which Kant’s military personnel are also taking part.
The Russian leader recalled that the base was created on the initiative of the leadership of Kyrgyzstan. According to Putin, Bishkek called on Moscow to deploy a Russian air wing in the republic “as quickly as possible” amid an “attack by gangs.”
Putin is taking part in a gala event marking the 20th anniversary of the Kant airbase as part of a trip to Kyrgyzstan, which will last until October 13. This is the first foreign visit of the Russian President in 2023. Earlier today, negotiations between the Russian President and the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov were held in Bishkek. Also on October 12, Putin is scheduled to meet with the leader of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.
On October 13, the President of the Russian Federation will take part in a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the CIS, which will be held in a limited and expanded format. Following the meeting, a package of documents will be signed. On the same day, Putin will meet with the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.
