Supporting young families in Russia, especially families with children, is an absolute priority of the state authorities. This statement was made on Thursday, February 15, by Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
The head of state emphasized that “if we want to preserve as an ethnic group or as ethnic groups inhabiting Russia, there must be at least two children” in every family.
Putin explained that “two people produce two children, which means the number of people remains the same and does not decrease,” in contrast to families in which one child replaces two parents.
At the same time, in order to “expand and develop,” you need at least three children in the family, so “everything we do is in one way or another connected with supporting the family,” the president concluded.
Earlier, the representative of Crimea in the Federation Council Olga Kovitidi said that it is necessary to introduce criminal penalties for inducing an expectant mother to have an abortion. She agreed with the opinion of Patriarch Kirill, who expressed the hope that such a crime would be punished by law.
Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Tatyana Golikova said that in 28 regions of Russia “Demographic winter” has already arrived. Women of reproductive age, according to her, refuse to bear children if they do not have a family, housing and normal income.
