Russian President Vladimir Putin established the Order of Gagarin, the corresponding decree on May 27 published on the official Internet portal of legal information.
The order itself is established by the document, and its Statute, description and drawing are also approved, the decree says. The Order of Gagarin will be awarded to citizens of the Russian Federation for “successful completion of a space flight, a manned space flight program for the exploration, exploration and use of outer space.”
In addition, the award will be presented for outstanding achievements in the implementation of state policy in the field of space activities, including in the interests of defense and national security. The order can also be received for the development, production and testing and trouble-free operation of rocket and space technology, the creation and implementation of new technologies.
Roskosmos CEO Yuri Borisov said in April that Putin had approved the state corporation’s proposal to establish an order named after cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin.
The order is made in the form of a five-pointed star with silver shtrals, the star is covered with blue enamel depicting the starry sky. The badge of the order is made of silver with enamel. The star features a bust portrait of Gagarin, it also depicts a rocket taking off.
