Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a telephone conversation, during which they discussed the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. About it reported on the website of the Armenian Prime Minister.
“The situation in Nagorno-Karabakh was discussed. The interlocutors also touched upon issues on the Armenian-Russian agenda,” the report says.
The Russian side has not yet commented on the negotiations.
On September 19, Azerbaijan announced the start of “anti-terrorism measures” in Nagorno-Karabakh to “restorate the constitutional order.” Already on September 20, the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) announced a complete ceasefire and disarmament of troops through the mediation of Russian peacekeepers. This was confirmed by the defense departments of Azerbaijan and Russia.
Pashinyan said that the intensity of military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh decreased after the ceasefire. Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that Russian peacekeepers are doing everything to protect the civilian population of Karabakh, and Moscow is in close contact with the authorities in Yerevan, Stepanakert and Baku.
On the evening of September 20, press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov stated, that now there is no reason to talk about “ethnic cleansing” in Karabakh. Pashinyan, in particular, made such a statement earlier.
