Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with permanent members of the Security Council. The topic of conversation was illegal arms trafficking. The President invited members of the Security Council to think about how weapons get into Russia, including from Ukraine.

“Today we have a question regarding the circulation of weapons on the territory of the Russian Federation. This question is always important – I won’t go into details and details now – but today especially, bearing in mind the conditions in which we live, in which the country lives,” the president said (video of the meeting is provided press service Kremlin).

“We need to think about how weapons and ammunition enter the territory of the Russian Federation illegally, by the way, including from the territory of Ukraine – not to our troops, but such weapons still end up on Russian territory from the territory of Ukraine,” suggested the president in the open part of the meeting.

According to statistics Ministry of Internal Affairs, over the ten months of 2022, the number of crimes using weapons in Russia increased by almost 30%. From January to October last year, 5 thousand such crimes were committed, mainly in regions bordering Ukraine.
