President Vladimir Putin arrived at a gala evening in honor of the opening of the first stage of the Battle of Kursk memorial complex in the village of Ponyri. Against the backdrop of a military band, he delivered a speech in honor of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Kursk.

“Hitler planned to take revenge for Stalingrad here, hoped for the strength of his tank divisions, for the SS formations – that they would break through the front and again roll an avalanche to the East. But they were met with iron stamina, the valor of our soldiers and commanders, battle-hardened fighters of the Red Army, ”said Vladimir Putin (quotes from site Kremlin).

At the event, the President presented state awards to servicemen of the 127th Motorized Rifle Division of the Fifth Combined Arms Army.
