President Vladimir Putin said that even during the Cold War, it never occurred to anyone to deny the culture of their opponents. The President stated this at the final plenary session of the 19th meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club. Mr. Putin also urged not to “blame the Kremlin’s intrigues” with any criticism of Russia’s opponents.
“Even at the height of the Cold War, at the peak of the confrontation between systems, ideologies and military rivalry, it never even occurred to anyone to deny the very existence of culture, art, science of other peoples and their opponents,” Vladimir Putin commented on the situation with the culture of cancellation (quote from “RIA News”). “The so-called culture of cancellation, and in fact, we have already talked about this many times, the abolition of culture drains everything that is alive and creative, does not allow free thought to develop in any of the areas – neither in the economy, nor in politics, nor in culture” Mr Putin explained.
The president also spoke about the position of the West in relation to Russia, when any criticism of Russia’s opponents is perceived as intrigues, the “hand” of the Kremlin, he called it nonsense. “At least move your brains, state something more interesting, state your point of view somehow conceptually. You can’t blame everything on the “intrigues” of the Kremlin,” Vladimir Putin commented. “We are not so omnipotent,” he said.
The theme of the Valdai Forum in 2022 is “The World After Hegemony: Justice and Security for All”. The meeting is attended by experts and politicians from 40 foreign countries, including Afghanistan, Brazil, Germany, Egypt, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, USA, Turkey, France, Uzbekistan, South Africa and others.
