Vladimir Putin signed decree on the creation of a fund to support participants in the military operation in Ukraine. Also, the fund, called “Defenders of the Fatherland”, will provide assistance to the families of the fallen soldiers.
According to the decree, the fund will provide support to veterans of the military operation, as well as those who have participated in hostilities in the Donbass since 2014. The activities of the fund will be carried out at the expense of the federal budget, voluntary property contributions and donations, as well as “other sources”. The Fund, in particular, will provide psychological and free legal assistance, assistance in obtaining and restoring documents, help in social adaptation and employment of the military.
The founder of the fund will be the government. Sergei Kiriyenko, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration, was appointed Chairman of the Fund’s Supervisory Board, and Anton Kotyakov, head of the Ministry of Labor, headed the Board of Trustees. Mr. Putin also instructed the top officials of the regions to provide support for the fund’s activities. Within a month, the charter and composition of the fund must be approved.
With a proposal to create a fund, Vladimir Putin spoke February 21 during a message to the Federal Assembly. In early March, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin saidthat the government is already working on the formation of a fund that will deal with “targeted personal assistance to the families of fallen soldiers and veterans of the NMD.”
