President Vladimir Putin called the writer Alexander Solzhenitsyn a true patriot of Russia and a nationalist in the civilized sense of the word during his speech at the plenary session of the VIII Eastern Economic Forum on Tuesday, September 12. The head of state also recalled that he had the opportunity to personally communicate with the author of the Gulag Archipelago.
One of the questions to the Russian President contained a quote from Solzhenitsyn that Western researchers in relation to Russian thousand-year-old Eastern Christianity experience only contempt and surprise, since our country does not accept the local worldview. The authors of these works condemn everything in which Russia is different from the West.
“I would like to say that my personal communication with Alexander Isaevich Solzhenitsyn convinced me that he was a real, true patriot of Russia,” Vladimir Putin emphasized when answering a question. “He was to a certain extent a nationalist. In the good sense of the word, in the civilized sense of the word. So what he said, such things are not surprising to me.”
Previously “MK” reported, that during his speech at the WEF, Vladimir Putin assessed the processes taking place in the international Olympic movement. According to the head of state, it is degrading and other organizations will take its place. “I think that today’s leadership of international federations, the International Olympic Committee itself, they are perverting the original idea of Pierre de Coubertin – sport should be outside of politics,” the Russian President emphasized.
