Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that “stupid people” are canceling Russian culture. According to him, nothing is canceled in Russia, but, on the contrary, they promote ideas and humanistic principles from the culture of other countries.
“Stupid people cancel our culture, but we not only do not cancel any of the best works, the best examples of the culture of other countries, but we also advance those ideas and humanistic principles that are embedded in these works. We are smart, and those who cancel our culture are not very good, ”the president said at the opening ceremony of social facilities (quoted by TASS).
Earlier, the Consul General of Ukraine in Milan, Andriy Kartysh, called for the cancellation of the production of the opera Boris Godunov by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky at the La Scala theater in Milan, explaining that the work could be used as “potential elements of propaganda.”
Deputy Minister of Culture of Italy Vittorio Zgarbi declaredthat “Boris Godunov” is “a masterpiece that belongs to all mankind.” According to him, canceling the opera for political reasons, the main motive of which is the madness of the king, would be unacceptable. As a result, it was decided to open the new season of La Scala with an opera by Modest Mussorgsky.
