President Vladimir Putin said that Russia is interested in highly qualified specialists, including foreign students studying at Russian universities. According to the head of state, we should think about “de-bureaucratizing” the procedure for obtaining citizenship.
“These are people (foreign students studying at Russian universities.— “Ъ”), which are needed for our economy, that’s for sure, they have a certain education, and a Russian one. I agree that here we need to think about improving these procedures, about de-bureaucracy,” the president said at a meeting with moderators of sessions of the Eastern Economic Forum. Vladimir Putin also noted that the issue of including study time in the length of service required to obtain citizenship should be considered.
On January 25, Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov said that about 400 thousand foreign students are studying at Russian universities. He noted that this process was not affected by the political situation. According to the Project Atlas research project, at the end of 2022, Russia ranked sixth in the world in terms of the number of foreign students.
