Putin began talks with African leaders

Russian President Vladimir Putin began negotiations with representatives of African states in St. Petersburg, transmits TASS. The leaders of seven countries flew to Russia to discuss ways to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

Among those who arrived in St. Petersburg to meet with the Russian president is South African leader Cyril Ramaphosa. That he arrived in Russia today to present a plan for Ukraine, informed Administration of the President. It was specified that the Presidents of Zambia, the Comoros and Senegal, as well as the heads of governments of the Congo, Egypt and Uganda would also visit Russia.

The day before, the head of the African state held talks with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. On June 17, following a visit to Kyiv by a delegation of seven African countries, Ramaphosa presented the “10 points” of the African “peace plan”. As noted in the press service of the President of South Africa, the mission to Kiev and St. Petersburg, which is in the midst of an attempted counter-offensive by the Armed Forces of Ukraine that began a week ago, “brings an African perspective and a call for a peace process.”

In mid-May, Ramaphosa, following a conversation with the presidents of Russia and Ukraine, said that they had agreed to accept the mission of African leaders to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. Then he noted that he would not accept one of the parties to the conflict in Ukraine and advocated an urgent cessation of hostilities.
