Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with the head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) Maxim Shaskolsky said that now it is especially important to monitor the level of prices in the country.

The Russian leader also noted that at the moment inflation in the country can be kept “within certain limits.” Putin added that it “has a downward trend.”
Shaskolsky, in turn, noted that the priority of the FAS is to control prices for food products, as well as medicines, petroleum products, building materials and cellular services.
According to him, as a result of the department’s work, markups on socially important food products in federal retail chains have decreased from 22% to 5.5%. In addition, stores have pledged to maintain a margin of no more than 5% for the most popular goods in such categories as bread, milk, sugar and borscht.
In March 2022 Putin instructed officials to monitor prices and avoid “price spikes”. He also called for the elimination of manual price regulation and stated the need to ensure the availability of goods on the consumer market.
