Putin asked the governor of Kamchatka to prepare proposals for assistance after the eruption

Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with members of the government, asked the governor of the Kamchatka Territory, Vladimir Solodov, to prepare proposals on the necessary assistance to the region after the eruption of the Shiveluch volcano. Thus, the head of state reacted to the words of Mr. Solodov about his intention to seek help from the government due to the fact that a large amount of ash still remains on the ground.

The governor clarified that government assistance would require additional dispensary supervision of risk groups and children’s rehabilitation. The head of the region also intends to involve the Institute of Pulmonology in addressing these issues. Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said during the meeting that the government is monitoring the situation and will provide the necessary assistance if necessary.

The governor added that local authorities are closely “monitoring everyone” and making sure that there are no threats, and doctors go around all households without exception. The head of the region also said that local schoolchildren temporarily switched to distance learning in connection with the eruption. “If children don’t go to school, it means that there is probably a threat to their health,” the president commented on Mr. Solodov’s words (quoted from TASS).

The eruption of the Shiveluch volcano in Kamchatka began April 10th. The thickness of the layer of volcanic ash in four hours reached 8.5 cm. This ashfall became the strongest in the last 60 years. In the villages of Kozyrevsk and Mayskoye, power supply was cut off due to ashfall. Rosaviatsiya ordered carriers to adjust routes due to the eruption.
