Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Ufa for a farewell ceremony for the first president of Bashkiria, Murtaza Rakhimov, transmits TASS.

Rakhimov died January 11 at the age of 88. He headed Bashkiria since 1990 as head of the Supreme Council of the republic, and from 1993 to 2010 he served as president. He was re-elected to this position four times. In 2006, he was elected for five years, his term of office expired in 2011, but in 2010 Rakhimov decided to leave the presidency ahead of schedule.
After leaving this position, Rakhimov was chairman of the board of the URAL charitable foundation, which controlled the proceeds from the sale of ANKBashneft”, and from 2010 to 2012 – a member of the board of directors of this oil company.
