Putin Appoints Zagainov Permanent Representative to ASEAN

Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed Evgeny Zagainov as Russia’s permanent representative to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Decree about it published on the official Internet portal of legal information.
By a separate decree, Putin freed from this position Alexander Ivanov, who has held this post since 2017. His new place of work is not specified.
Evgeny Zagainov was born on November 22, 1967. Since 2018, he has been the director of the legal department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, and before that, he served as Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN. In 2021, he was also re-elected to the International Law Commission (ILC) of the UN General Assembly.
Alexander Ivanov was born on May 9, 1952. He has been Russia’s Permanent Representative to ASEAN since 2017. This is not the first time he has held this post: Ivanov was already Russia’s Permanent Representative to ASEAN from 2009 to 2012. Almost at the same time, from 2007 to 2012. he was the Russian ambassador to Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, East Timor and Kiribati. From 2012 to 2017 Ivanov was Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
