Russia and Belarus will develop a security concept for the Union State, declared Russian President Vladimir Putin following a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State.
“It is of great importance that the question on the beginning of the preparation of the concept of security of the Union State placed on the agenda and considered … We certainly should be engaged in strategic planning in detail and we will further strengthen the security system of the Union State, thereby guaranteeing the conditions for its stable, progressive social economic development,” he said.
This document will formulate the fundamental tasks of interaction between Moscow and Minsk in the area of growing tension on the external borders of our states and the sanctions and information war unleashed against the two countries, the President stressed.
Increasing cooperation in the field of security and defense is in the fundamental interests of the peoples of Russia and Belarus, Putin added.
On April 4, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced that Russia handed over armed forces of Belarus operational-tactical missile system “Iskander-M”, capable of using nuclear missiles. On April 3, one of the Russian training grounds began training Belarusian crews on how to use it. In addition, part of the attack aircraft of the Belarusian Air Force got the opportunity to use nuclear weapons to strike at enemy targets, Shoigu noted.
Shoigu stressed that measures to strengthen the security of the Union State are being taken in connection with NATO’s increased combat readiness of the Joint Armed Forces, as well as the intensification of intelligence activities near the borders of Russia and Belarus.
