Putin and Tokayev discussed cooperation in the energy sector

Presidents of Russia and Kazakhstan Vladimir Putin and Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev had a telephone conversation during which they discussed issues of further cooperation in the energy sector, informed Kremlin press office.

“During the telephone conversation, topical issues of the development of the Russian-Kazakh strategic partnership and alliance were discussed. In particular, the issues of further cooperation in the energy sector were touched upon,” they said.

Press Service of the President of Kazakhstan notedin turn, that the parties stressed the importance of continuing the further development of ties in trade, economic, energy and other areas.

Last time Putin and Tokayev spoke by phone January 3rd.

On November 29, 2022, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said on the sidelines of the IV Russian-Chinese Energy Business Forum that Moscow is discussing with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan the creation of a gas union for the supply of this type of fuel both between countries and for export. According to him, the countries have had “virtually a unified gas transportation system” since Soviet times. The day before, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced the proposal made by the Russian leader during negotiations in Moscow to create a union of Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan “to resolve issues in the gas sector.”
