Russian President Vladimir Putin and his counterpart from Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev during a telephone conversation discussed the prospects for further cooperation in the energy sector, transmits Kremlin press office.
“Prospects for further development of cooperation in the energy sector were also discussed,” the report says.
Also during today’s telephone conversation, issues of practical implementation of the agreements reached by the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia on the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh at the end of October were considered. According to the Kremlin press service, during the conversation, the importance of continuing work in a trilateral format to ensure security on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border and restore transport links in the South Caucasus was emphasized.

In late October, Putin, Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a trilateral meeting in Sochi, where they agreed to refrain from using or threatening to use force in the context of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. The meeting participants also stressed the importance of preparing for the conclusion of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and Russia confirmed its readiness to provide the necessary assistance to this.
