Putin agreed with Eva Merkacheva on amnesty for a number of convicted women

At a meeting on December 4, MK journalist and member of the Presidential Human Rights Council Eva Merkacheva called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to help mitigate sentences for those convicted of women who have young children.
In her speech, Merkacheva noted that many women with children in colonies, or who give birth during imprisonment or investigation, hardly see their children, which ultimately threatens the child himself with extremely negative consequences for development. Merkacheva believes that women should be released from colonies those convicted of non-violent crimes and those with young children. In general, according to the human rights activist, all women with children should be at home, this would be mercy.
“The example you gave about women in prison is convincing,” Putin said. “I think it is necessary to prepare and make appropriate decisions, including on amnesty for certain categories of women.”
