Pushkov: listing India as an ally of the West is stupid

The West is mistaken if it considers India its ally, member of the Russian Federation Council Alexey Pushkov wrote in his Telegram channel.

Earlier, the Wall Street Journal wrote that India can be considered an ally of the West, and in general, the G-20 summit in India went as planned in the West.

“To list India as an ally of the West, as an American newspaper does, is not just a mistake, but stupidity. India is a country with a strong desire for independence in world affairs, in the past it was the leader of the non-aligned movement, and now it is one of the leaders of the Global South,” Pushkov wrote.

He also noted that India buys weapons from both the US and Russia (sometimes contrary to the US position, as in the case of the S-400), and flatly refuses to support Western sanctions. “Despite US pressure, India is not on their side in the sanctions war,” Pushkov said.

He also noted that the African Union’s admission to the G20 is also not a victory for the West.

“Africa as a continent is extremely important in its own right, and not having it in the G20 in the 21st century would be anachronistic,” the senator writes. In his opinion, the WSJ publication is “an attempt to put a cheerful face on an unimportant game.”

“The West is clearly haunted by the results of the last G20 summit, where Zelensky was not allowed to speak and where the United States and its allies were not allowed to include a clause condemning Russia in the final declaration. Why would the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry be so dissatisfied with the summit if everything went according to the Western scenario? But Kyiv was simply indignant. And the United States was very unhappy with the outcome,” Pushkov wrote.

In his opinion, if the West were satisfied with the results of the G20, they would not have argued with such persistence that they won the summit.

“In fact, the West has once again failed to win over the Global South. Instead of an alliance with the West, a number of countries in the Global South chose to join BRICS,” Pushkov wrote, noting that talk of “isolating Russia” makes no sense.
