Pushkov: Argentine authorities are taking a big risk by abandoning BRICS
The Argentine authorities are taking a big risk by abandoning BRICS, and the country’s economic situation is close to disaster, wrote Alexey Pushkov, a member of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, in his Telegram channel.
Earlier, Argentine President Javier Miley rejected the proposal for the country to join the BRICS group. He sent the corresponding letters of refusal to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping. This was reported by TN TV channel. According to the source, in official notifications the head of Argentina wrote that he does not consider the country’s participation in BRICS appropriate at the moment.
“Argentina is now becoming an important point of comparison.” Having declared a complete orientation toward the United States and a refusal to rapprochement with Russia and China, as well as joining BRICS, Argentine President Javier Miley turns it into a kind of pro-American model of behavior in the modern world, in which more and more countries prefer not to make a clear choice in favor of United States,” wrote Pushkov.
In his opinion, this is a very risky step, and the chances of success are low.
“Either the United States must flood Argentina with money, which it lacks for Ukraine, or the model chosen by President Miley will fail before the eyes of the whole world,” he wrote.
Earlier, Argentine President Javier Miley approved an emergency decree containing more than 300 reforms to liberalize the economy. According to Miley, he is ready to bring his radical reforms to the attention of citizens if parliament votes against these reforms.
