Russian forces are advancing in Avdeevka from two sides, forming a “bag” for the enemy, stated Head of the DPR Denis Pushilin in a commentary to RIA Novosti.
“(In Avdiivka) there is progress on both sides; in fact, as we see now, a kind of bag is being formed. <...> From the directions from which we are advancing, from the northern and southern directions, both here and there there is and there is consolidation in new positions, there is progress in the recaptured positions,” he said.
According to him, the Russian Armed Forces, moving forward, destroyed a “quite large” number of strongholds and warehouses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The need to take control of this settlement, the head of the DPR emphasized, has been brewing for a long time, since it is from here that Donetsk and a number of other territories in the region are fired upon.
“The need has been brewing for a long time, and now a number of steps and actions are being taken by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation towards this,” he concluded.
Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. During the fighting, Russian troops took full control of the LPR, as well as most of the DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. The Ukrainian Armed Forces began to conduct active offensive operations on June 4.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on September 12 that the counteroffensive is not bringing results to Ukraine; since its beginning, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have lost 71,500 troops. On September 4, Putin called it “not a slippage, but a failure.” The Russian leader stressed that Moscow has never refused negotiations. At the end of September, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu spoke about the loss of over 17,000 soldiers by the Armed Forces of Ukraine since the beginning of autumn.
