On Wednesday, October 11, a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council took place. The Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, spoke about this following the event.
As the Norwegian politician clarified, the meeting participants discussed Ukraine’s priorities on the path to NATO membership, including long-term compatibility and defense procurement.
Stoltenberg praised the efforts of the Ukrainian authorities to combat corruption as hostilities continue.
He also assured that NATO will increase support to help Ukraine survive the coming winter.
Earlier, former American intelligence officer Scott Ritter skeptically commented on the meeting of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky with Jens Stoltenberg, as well as the defense ministers of France and Great Britain. Ritter noted that at this meeting there was a rejection of a realistic peace proposal, while NATO officials encourage Ukraine to join the alliance.
Republican contender for the US presidency, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, said that the United States does not need Ukraine to join the North Atlantic Alliance and does not suit their interests.
