Students of the tenth grade of engineering of the capital’s school No. 2120 created a project for lighting street pedestrian crossings, which will notify drivers that a pedestrian is on a zebra.
The project itself is quite simple and original in the technical sense: 120 meters before the pedestrian crossing, light-sensitive flashlights are installed on the road, which start flashing when the motion sensor is triggered. Thus, when approaching a pedestrian crossing, even in the dark, the driver understands that someone is walking along it, and must slow down.
Maria Skorikova, the curator of the Engineering Class project, computer science teacher at School No. 2120, said that the development of young engineers helps children not only acquire knowledge in the field of microelectronics and circuitry, but also create applied projects that will save people’s lives. But the traffic police statistics show that about 70,000 car collisions with pedestrians occur annually in the country, and often such collisions occur at pedestrian crossings.
