NASA has published a photo of a new crater that could have formed after the collision of the Russian Luna-25 station with a satellite.
One picture was taken on June 27, 2020, the second on August 24, 2023.
“Luna-25” is an automatic interplanetary station, part of the Russian lunar program, the first Russian lunar task carried out at the NPO named after S. A. Lavochkin for the study and practical use of the Moon and the lunar space by automatic interplanetary stations.
According to the results of mathematical modeling performed by the M.V. Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Luna-25 fell to the surface of the Moon in the 42-km Pontekulan G crater in the region of the southeastern limb of the Moon on August 19 at 14:58 Moscow time.
