Psychologists have evaluated the effectiveness of learning foreign languages in a dream

Psychologists from Israel and Switzerland reported that learning a foreign language in a dream is not a 100% myth, but is an ineffective approach.
Flavio Schmidig and his colleagues observed the sleep of 30 volunteers and, during the deep sleep phase, let them listen to one or another word they knew, in combination with a set of sounds, which was supposed to play the role of “translation”. Real words were not used as translations for the purity of the experiment. The volunteers then had to choose from three response options.
After the first experiment, the accuracy of the answers was 37 percent, after the second – 41. Compared to 33 percent at random, this percentage was high, but not enough to suggest that “learning in a dream” can be effective.
