PSB opened the northernmost street basketball center in Arkhangelsk

The grand opening of the center, created with the support of the Russian Basketball Federation and the leadership of the region, took place on August 22 on the territory of the Palace of Children and Youth Creativity

The grand opening of the Center, created with the support of the Russian Basketball Federation and the leadership of the region, took place on August 22 at the Palace of Children’s and Youth Creativity.

The northernmost street basketball center of PSB, located at the address: 73, Northern Dvina Embankment, became the eighth in Russia. It was created as part of the First All-Russian sports project “PSB for Children”.

The Street Basketball Center includes five playgrounds, stands, locker rooms and a workout area and meets all the standards of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), and also provides an opportunity not only for everyone to practice daily from 08:00 to 22:00, but also for athletes national and international competitions.

The opening ceremony was attended by PSB Director for Sports Projects and Head of the PSB for Children project Ruben Begunts.

– The PSB for Children project unites young people in their pursuit of an active and healthy lifestyle, – said Ruben Begunts. – We are seeing a growing interest in sports in general and basketball in particular, and this inspires us to further develop it in regions that are ready to accept and support our initiative. Thank you for the involvement of representatives of both the region and the Basketball Federation.

Players of the Russian national team Alexander Zuev and Yulia Kozik, as well as President of the Russian Basketball Federation Andrey Kirilenko came to the opening of the Street Basketball Center.

– Northern Dvina, White Sea, northern region. It’s great that we are opening the Street Basketball Center here, – said Andrei Kirilenko. – There are many fans of our game here, and one of the iconic players of the Arkhangelsk region is the 2007 European champion Sergey Bykov, who was born in Novodvinsk. Our joint project is developing successfully, its geography covers the whole country. We hope that it will continue further, and a large number of regions will receive the long-awaited infrastructure.

Sergey Pivkov, Deputy Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region, who oversees the construction of the center, stressed that social partnership helps to develop a comfortable living environment.

– Social partnership makes it possible to launch large-scale projects that create a comfortable environment for life, – said Sergey Pivkov. – Investments in sports infrastructure are the foundation for the further development of the territory and the well-being of its inhabitants. We are glad that a modern Street Basketball Center has been opened in our city as part of the socially significant project of Promsvyazbank “PSB for Children”.

It should be noted that the “First All-Russian Sports Project “PSB for Children” started in 2019. During this time, PSB Street Basketball Centers have already been built and opened in Novomoskovsk and Tula, Volgograd and Kaliningrad, Cheboksary, Tyumen, Stavropol, and now in Arkhangelsk. Until the end of 2022, it is planned to launch the Centers in Izhevsk, Orenburg, Novokuznetsk, Nalchik.
