The defense will appeal to the court of appeal the decision of the Lublin court, which sentenced disinfector Anton Kotov to 5 years in prison for the death of two Muscovites from watermelon poisoning.
This was announced on August 22 after the end of the court session, following which the verdict was announced, the defendant of the convict Yevgeny Zakharkin said.
Recall that Kotov was accused of incorrectly disinfecting the Magnit store on Sovkhoznaya Street in Moscow in September 2021. As a result, the insecticide cygathrin, which was sanitized, got on the watermelons. One of them was bought by local residents, who subsequently poisoned themselves. An elderly woman and her 14-year-old granddaughter died, the girl’s mother remained alive, but also suffered greatly.
According to the lawyer, during the investigation more than 20 examinations were carried out, but it was not possible to identify the presence of cygathrin on watermelons, as well as in the internal organs of the dead. The prosecution refused to accept the results of several examinations on the grounds that they were made with violations.
The lawyer noted that the line of defense of his principal will be built after he can familiarize himself with the arguments of his opponents.
