Artist Prokhor Chaliapin attended a tasting of exotic dishes from a nutritionist. Chaliapin tried a large number of insects as part of a new dietary program and shared his impressions with Moskovsky Komsomolets.

Among the dishes offered at the event, locusts, bamboo worms, fried pupae, spicy crickets, silkworms, locusts with lemongrass, cricket flour cookies, crispy bamboo worms, mixed insect pizza, maggot pies and other dishes were especially popular.

According to nutritionist Mariyat Mukhina, dishes made from exotic insects can easily replace the nutritional value of familiar food. And in an unstable economic situation, they can also become an alternative when there is no money to buy expensive food. As the doctor noted, the peculiarity of insects is that they contain the “molecule of life” – trehalose, so food from insects can become part of the diet of people who previously could not think about it.

“Trehalose is found in insects, fungi, and crustaceans; its unique properties are already actively used in medicine and the food industry. It activates autophagy – the process of cell self-cleaning from denatured protein and cell breakdown products, and is also used to preserve embryos during IVF and organs during transplantation,” Professor Prokhor Shalyapin and other guests were intrigued. “Connoisseurs” of exotics were looking for maggots, which are often eaten in eastern countries, among the dishes presented, but they did not find them.

After these words, Chaliapin perked up. He tried almost the entire range of insects and admitted that he was glad to try frog legs.

“I’ve long wanted to try frog legs, but there was no opportunity. And finally, I took advantage of the situation,” said Prokhor. “I tried grasshoppers for the first time in Thailand on a project. They brought pizza with insects, the girls pounced from hunger. But for me it was “Something new. You see, teaching a Russian person to give up dumplings and fried potatoes with lard is very difficult.”

Then, after a couple of locust claws, he announced that he had chosen the ideal diet for his friend Anastasia Volochkova.
