The anti-missile defense of Project 23900 landing helicopter-carrying ships (UDC) will be strengthened by the AK-630M-2 Duet automatic artillery mount, TASS reports, citing a source in the naval sphere. As part of the project, two ships are being built at the Kerch shipbuilding plant “Zaliv” – “Ivan Rogov” and “Mitrofan Moskalenko”.
As the interlocutor of the agency clarified, it was originally planned to provide missile defense for the UDC mainly with the help of the Pantsir-M air defense missile system, but now it will be strengthened by the AK-630M-2 Duet installation. “It will ensure the destruction of anti-ship missiles and other types of guided weapons,” an unnamed agency source said on the sidelines of the International Maritime Defense Show.
According to him, the decision to strengthen missile defense was dictated by the experience of operating surface ships during the military operation in Ukraine.
The ships Ivan Rogov and Mitrofan Moskalenko were laid down at the Zaliv shipyard on July 20, 2020. AK-630M-2 is part of the armament of large landing ships of project 11711 “Ivan Gren” and Pyotr Morgunov, as well as small missile ships of project 21631 “Buyan-M”.
