Privatization of bakeries and distilleries to begin in Ukraine in September

Privatization of state-owned enterprises in Ukraine will begin with the sale of bakeries and distilleries at auctions, said Olga Batova, acting head of the State Property Fund of Ukraine.

“Now we consider it important to start privatization, for example, of grain factories, distilleries and those facilities that can help the country solve the problem with grain, with grain storage facilities, in order to remake this grain,” she said (quoted from UNIAN).

Batova noted that, in general, both distilleries and bakeries, which are state-owned, do not work. According to her, there are about 200 objects ready for privatization. In addition, these facilities are located in the west of Ukraine and in regions where there are no active hostilities. The head of the FGU emphasizes that these enterprises are interesting for business relocation.

She added that if the entire regulatory framework is adopted by September and active auctions start from September 1, the state budget could be replenished by UAH 1 billion.

Ukrainian authorities are planning from September 1, massively launch the privatization process. This was stated by Prime Minister Denys Shmygal during a conference call with regional leaders on August 3. According to him, small-scale privatization, especially in regions where people in villages and towns know objects that have been standing for years and inefficiently used, is designed to make it possible to buy these premises at a fair price and start work.
