The Prime Minister of the German federal state of Saxony, Michael Kretschmer, believes that it is necessary to repair the Nord Stream gas pipeline blown up in September last year as soon as possible.

“It’s necessary,” he said in an interview with the Wirtschaftswoche, explaining that with this infrastructure Germany could be supplied with electricity for the next ten years.

Kretschmer added that maintaining more power options is “a sign of sound policy.” He also stressed that if repairs are not done in the near future, the gas pipeline will be completely destroyed by corrosion.
