Prime Minister of Poland erected a cross on the site of a Polish village destroyed by Bandera

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki visited Ukrainian territory, where the former Polish village of Ostrowki was located, destroyed by Ukrainian nationalists during the Volyn massacre. On his Twitter account, Morawiecki shared information that he erected a cross at the site of the tragedy to honor the memory of the dead Polish residents.
A photograph released by the prime minister shows him personally erecting a wooden cross at the site of the murder of Poles by Ukrainian nationalists. Together with Morawiecki, Leon Popek, one of the descendants of the Polish inhabitants of the village and the researcher of the Volyn massacre, was present on the spot. They also lit a lamp in front of the statue of the Mother of God, located near the site of the former Catholic church, and visited the cemetery where the victims of this tragedy are buried. Morawiecki laid a wreath at the monument erected in memory of the dead.
According to Leon Popek, the village of Ostrówki has been mentioned in historical documents since the 16th century, but in August 1943 it was completely destroyed, almost all of its inhabitants were killed by UPA militants. Within a few hours of August 30, 1943, 475 people died here.
The culmination of the events of 1943, which is called the Volyn massacre, is considered July 11 – on this day, Ukrainian nationalists attacked about 150 Polish villages at the same time. Polish historians view these events as genocide and ethnic cleansing, estimating the death toll from 100,000 to 130,000 people.
