Prime Minister of Poland announced a symmetrical response to the closure of diplomatic missions in Russia

Poland plans to respond symmetrically to Russia’s actions to close the country’s diplomatic missions. This was announced to journalists by the Prime Minister of the Republic Mateusz Morawiecki.

“If it finally comes to the point that Russia begins to liquidate our diplomatic platforms, then we, for our part, will respond symmetrically,” noted he (TASS quote).

July 14, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed an order to accept the proposal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to close the consular agency of Poland in Smolensk. The press service of the Cabinet of Ministers explained that the decision “allows to restore the parity of consular institutions” of the two countries against the backdrop of unfriendly actions by Warsaw. They recalled the illegal confiscation of real estate of the Russian diplomatic mission in Poland and the “significant reduction” of Russia’s diplomatic presence in the republic.

On April 29 in Warsaw, local authorities and police entered the school building at the Russian Embassy and demanded that employees leave it, as Poland decided to transfer this property to the state last year. May 10 School at the Russian Embassy in Warsaw resumed work in a new place. The Russian Foreign Ministry called the incident an encroachment on Russian diplomatic property. The embassy handed over a note of protest to the Polish Foreign Ministry in connection with the incident. In the Kremlin warnedthat Poland’s actions “do not lead to anything good.”

At the end of April, Russian Ambassador to Poland Sergei Andreev said that the Polish prosecutor’s office also withdrew funds from the accounts of the embassy and the Russian trade mission. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation admitted the introduction of asymmetric measures in response to the actions of the authorities of the republic.
