Prime Minister of Moldova urged to solve the problem with the export of products to Russia

The Ministry of Agriculture of Moldova must urgently solve the problem with the ban on the export of fruits and vegetables to Russia, which will come into effect on August 15, said the Prime Minister of the Republic, Natalia Gavrilitsa.

“Yesterday we learned that pests were suddenly found in Moldovan fruits and vegetables. I ask the competent departments to look into, inform and solve this problem,” Gavrilitsa instructed (quote by TASS).

The prime minister urged to strictly monitor the quality of products that enter the markets of different countries. “We continue to expand markets, so we need to value quality and work in this direction,” she added.

On August 15, Russia will ban the import of plant products from 31 regions of Moldova, as well as from the autonomous territorial unit of Gagauzia and the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti due to the repeated detection of quarantine objects in their products.

On March 5, Rosselkhoznadzor lifted all restrictions on regulated products imported from Moldova. Prior to this, products were imported to Russia only from “quarantine-free zones and certified enterprises,” work will continue in the same format from August 15.

Since the beginning of the year, 168,000 tons of plant products from Moldova have been supplied to Russia. The most popular imports were apples, plums, grapes and cherries. In total, in 2021-2022, 93 cases of detection of 11 quarantine objects were recorded as part of crop products from Moldova.
