Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean announced the need to withdraw from the territory of Pridnestrovie the operational group of Russian troops, Interfax reports.
“Moldova is involved in a process that involves an exclusively peaceful resolution of the Transnistrian issue,” the agency quoted Rechan as saying to journalists on Tuesday.
According to him, “this means that Russia must withdraw its troops, evacuate weapons and ammunition.”
At the same time, the prime minister noted: “Russia has pledged to do this, and more than once.”
He also said that the Moldovan authorities “should make sure that Russia will fulfill the promise”, “this means demilitarization.” At the same time, Recean specified that there was no talk of curtailing the peacekeeping operation, which is being carried out in accordance with the Moldovan-Russian agreement of July 21, 1992. “We are talking about the operational group of Russian troops – more than one and a half thousand Russian military personnel who are on the territory of the Republic of Moldova without legal grounds,” the prime minister said.
He also said that “Moldova adheres to the peaceful way of resolving the Transnistrian conflict”, and the competent authorities of the country are ready for challenges in case of destabilization of the situation.
