In the academic year 2023/24, elementary schools, pro-gymnasiums and kindergartens in the city of Blagoveshchensk will begin teaching Chinese. As specified in the city administration, almost 1.5 thousand children will study Chinese.

Natalya Kurdyukova, a Chinese language teacher at school No. 14, and Nadezhda Glazycheva, Associate Professor of the Department of Romano-Germanic and Oriental Languages, Candidate of Philology of the Belarusian State Pedagogical University, were responsible for the development of the educational program.
In June 2022, Governor of the Amur Region Vasily Orlov met with the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China on the eve of the opening of traffic on the Blagoveshchensk-Heihe automobile bridge. Then Mr. Orlov said that only one school in Blagoveshchensk had a special class with a deep study of the Chinese language, but from the next academic year, this language would be taught in all schools in the city.
Blagoveshchensk borders on the Aihui district of the Chinese urban district of Heihe. The cities are separated by the Amur River, across which a 1,284-meter long bridge was built. Traffic on the bridge was supposed to begin after restrictions were lifted due to the coronavirus pandemic. The official opening of the bridge took place on June 10, 2022.
