April 7 Evgeny Prigozhin commented plans to “expand the presence of PMCs on the African continent.” In particular, he announced the presence in the Russian Federation of a “colossal anti-Russian lobby”, one of whose goals is to limit the possibility of expansion on the African continent. Speaking about attempts to develop the work of PMCs in Africa, Yevgeny Prigozhin spoke about “spike in the wheels everywhere, at every step”, including from the Ministry of Defense and the Russian Foreign Ministry.
“As has been repeatedly stated, the ministry is ready for the widest possible cooperation with Russian entrepreneurs and companies in the context of promoting the legitimate interests of Russian business abroad,” they wrote in response to the statement of the PMC founder in the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In addition, the publication listed the upcoming events on the African agenda, in which representatives of the Russian Federation will take part. Activities include a briefing and consultation by the UN multidisciplinary mission in Mali; briefing and consultations by the United Nations Mission of Support in Libya; and by the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara. “Therefore, there will be no quarrel. With love and together,” the Foreign Ministry concluded.
To this, Mr. Prigozhin replied that “the Russian Foreign Ministry is bringing to the UN Security Council the bureaucracy characteristic of the state structures of the Russian Federation, and the governments of the allied countries are asking for immediate decisions.” Among the issues that he proposes to discuss in the UN Security Council:
- topics related to the conflict in Ukraine;
- declaration as terrorist organizations that supported terrorist attacks on the territory of the Russian Federation;
- French violation of Malian airspace and espionage;
- the release of political prisoners in Sudan (the case of ex-president Omar Bashir);
- the situation in the CAR (the lifting of the arms embargo, the restoration of the CAR in the Kimberley Process, the dispatch of a review mission of the process to its territory, the withdrawal of the MINUSCA contingent – the UN mission);
- the situation in Syria is the illegal presence of the United States on its territory;
- revision of sanctions against Iran, North Korea, Libya and Eritrea;
- US intervention in Libya.
The publication also says that a list of closed questions was sent in a separate letter.
The New York Times reported in March that the Wagner PMC saves in Africa from 3.5 thousand to 4.5 thousand fighters.
