The Ministry of Health will develop the rules
The Ministry of Health of Russia plans to facilitate the work of clergy in medical institutions. In the near future, officials are going to develop a procedure for admitting religious figures to parishioners who are hospital patients.
As it became known to MK, such a need was caused by a legal conflict. On the one hand, according to the Law “On the Fundamentals of Protecting the Health of Citizens in the Russian Federation”, patients have the right to be admitted to them by clergy. If they are treated in a hospital, they must be provided with conditions for the performance of religious rites and even a separate room for prayers. Meanwhile, the procedure for organizing visits of clerics to hospitals has not been developed; moreover, it is not even clear who should prepare this document. The adoption of the law will be the first step towards the development of rules for visiting the sick by priests.
According to the rector of the Church of the All-Merciful Savior in Mitin, Father Gregory Geronimus, the preparation of such a document is really necessary. He told MK that he visits hospitals regularly, most often to take unction or communion with the sick, support them, and prepare someone for death. Now relatives agree on such visits with hospital staff, sometimes the priest visits patients by personal agreement with the head physicians. Establishing a clear order in medical institutions for admission will be useful for the priests themselves, and for the patients, and for the medical staff.
