Presidential elections will be held in four new regions of Russia – Kommersant

Central Election Commission (CEC) reported, which held consultations on the issue of holding presidential elections in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, as well as the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, where martial law was introduced. All parties to the consultations considered it possible to hold elections in these regions.
The consultations were attended by Deputy Chairman and Secretary of the Central Election Commission Nikolai Bulaev and Natalya Budarina, representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the FSB, as well as the leadership of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. The final discussion of holding elections in new regions will take place at an extraordinary meeting today, December 11. Martial law in the territories of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions has been in effect since October 2022.
Voting in the Russian presidential elections will take place over three days – March 15, 16 and 17, 2024. Current Russian President Vladimir Putin has already announced his intention to run. If he wins, this will be his fifth term at the head of state.
