State Duma Vice Speaker Vladislav Davankov said that he signed for Boris Nadezhdin, who is running for president of Russia, despite disagreements on some issues. He also promised to sign for other self-nominated candidates.
“I am sure that there should be political competition in Russia. I do not agree with Nadezhdin on everything, and I expect to discuss these issues at the debate. Collecting signatures is not easy. We walked this path in the regions when we created the New People party. Therefore, I will put my signature for other self-nominated candidates this week,” Mr. Davankov told RIA Novosti.
Boris Nadezhdin is nominated from the non-parliamentary party “Civil Initiative”. By January 22, he had collected more than 80 thousand signatures out of the required 100 thousand for nomination as a presidential candidate. By law, candidates from non-parliamentary parties and self-nominated candidates must complete the collection of signatures by January 31.
To date, representatives of three parliamentary parties have been registered as presidential candidates: Leonid Slutsky (LDPR), Vladislav Davankov (“New People”) and Nikolai Kharitonov (CPRF). Vladimir Putin’s election headquarters on January 22 passed signatures in the CEC in his support. The presidential elections will be held March 15–17.
