Preparations for production of the first Checkmate fighter aircraft have begun

The timing of the first flight of the fifth-generation fighter Checkmate was adjusted due to changes in the project, the Rostec press service reported. The manufacturer was provided with documentation to prepare the production of the first samples.
“Based on the work carried out, changes were made to the project, which also adjusted the timing of the first flight. Today, the design documentation has been transferred to the manufacturing plant, preparations for the production of the first samples have begun,” the Rostec press service reported. “RIA News”.
The Checkmate fighter is the first Russian fifth-generation single-engine aircraft. Developed by Sukhoi (part of the United Aircraft Corporation Rostec). Was presented in 2021 at MAKS-2021. Features include stealth, low cost per flight hour, open architecture and high performance in terms of cost-effectiveness.
After the presentation of Checkmate, Rostec collected the opinions of potential customers, adjusted the cost of the project and “individual technical solutions.” According to the state corporation, this “significantly increased the competitiveness and commercial attractiveness” of the fighter and “reduced the technical risks during its creation.”
How exactly the timing of Checkmate’s first flight has been adjusted is not specified. Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov in August 2022 saidthat the first flight will take place in 2024. Then he also said that the deadline had been adjusted. Expectedthat the first batch of fighters will be produced in 2026, mass production planned for 2027.
