Potentially dangerous asteroid 6037 (1988 EG), having a diameter of up to 960 meters, will fly past the Earth on August 23 at a distance of about 6 million kilometers. This was reported on the website of the NASA Center for the Study of Near-Earth Objects.
According to the website, the asteroid will make its closest approach to Earth on August 23 at 08:18 UTC (11:18 Moscow time). It is predicted that the minimum distance between the asteroid and our planet will be about 0.04 astronomical units, which is equivalent to approximately 6.1 million kilometers.
Objects crossing the Earth’s orbit at a distance of less than 0.05 astronomical units or 7.5 million kilometers are considered potentially dangerous. Scientists estimate the diameter of asteroid 6037 (1988 EG) to be between 430 and 960 meters. Its speed is 14.25 kilometers per second.
