Ex-president of Ukraine Poroshenko came to the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra for the liturgy on the occasion of the Annunciation
Former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, who is a parishioner of the schismatic Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), arrived on Friday at the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, which was previously run by the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC). Ukrainian Channel Five is broadcasting the service.
It is noted that several dozen people are present at the liturgy on the occasion of the Annunciation, including the former Ukrainian leader Poroshenko and his wife Marina.
According to media reports, at the end of last year, the authorities did not renew the lease agreement for the Assumption Cathedral of the canonical UOC, so services on Christmas and Epiphany in 2023 were held in the OCU church for the first time. At the same time, it is clarified that the authorities of the country did not transfer the cathedral to the jurisdiction of the schismatic church, providing only one-time permissions, however, this time it was not reported about the permission of the OCU to conduct services in the Assumption Cathedral.
