The magistrate found the American hotel booking service Hotels.com guilty for refusing to localize the personal data of Russians in the Russian Federation and imposed a fine of six million rubles. This was reported by the press service of the Tagansky Court of Moscow.
According to the source, the platform was fined under Article 13.11 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation “Repeated failure by the operator, when collecting personal data, to ensure the recording, storage or retrieval of personal data of citizens of the Russian Federation using databases located on the territory of Russia.” A fine for violation was issued in the amount of six million rubles.
The press service clarified that initially the company could have been fined 18 million rubles.
