Polyansky: the United States crosses all moral boundaries

The United States is overstepping all moral boundaries, Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, said on his Twitter, commenting on the death of RIA Novosti war correspondent Rostislav Zhuravlev in the special operation zone, who on Saturday, July 22, came under fire from cluster munitions.

“US-supplied cluster munitions are killing journalists in Ukraine. It is interesting that in American society they think that their country is overstepping all moral boundaries in a futile attempt to save the crumbling corrupt Kiev regime. It seems that the US establishment can only teach others,” he wrote.

Russian journalists from Izvestia and RIA Novosti came under fire from the Ukrainian military in the Zaporozhye region, four people were injured. Military commissar Rostislav Zhuravlev died of wounds as a result of the explosion of a cluster submunition, reported earlier today, the press service of the RF Ministry of Defense. Also wounded were the agency’s photojournalist Konstantin Mikhalchevsky and Izvestia employees – correspondent Roman Polshakov and cameraman of the TV channel Dmitry Shikov. According to the defense ministry, the journalists were preparing materials about the artillery attacks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with cluster munitions of settlements in the Zaporozhye region.

On July 7, the White House announced the transfer of cluster munitions to Kyiv. Washington said Ukraine had provided the United States with written assurances that the ammunition would be used “with care.” On July 13, the Pentagon announced that weapons were already in Ukraine. The Russian Foreign Ministry considered such a step a “gesture of desperation,” and Denis Pushilin, acting head of the DPR, stressed that the transfer of cluster munitions would not affect the course of the special operation. The Kremlin warned that if Ukraine uses such weapons, Russia will be forced to take countermeasures.
